MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) – A missing man, unseen for approximately three weeks, has been positively identified as Roy Cleo Williams Jr., whose body was discovered last week along Highway 31. Baldwin County Sheriff’s investigators announced the identification today, confirming an autopsy revealed Williams died after being struck by a vehicle, turning the tragic incident into a suspected hit-and-run investigation.

Williams’ remains were found last Wednesday by a mowing crew working along U.S. 31 north of Bay Minette, near the 26-mile marker. Sheriff Anthony Lowery described the body as being in advanced stages of decomposition, hindering immediate identification. However, forensic analysis quickly confirmed Williams’ identity.

The autopsy, completed Thursday morning, provided the critical detail regarding the cause of death. Officials stated that injuries sustained were consistent with being hit by a car, prompting authorities to open a full-scale inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

“Williams had been missing for about three weeks when his body was discovered,” authorities stated. While the specific time of death is not yet clear, the advanced state of decomposition indicates the incident occurred well before the discovery.

This complex and evolving case has now been turned over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), which will lead the ongoing investigation. ALEA agents are tasked with piecing together the timeline of events, determining when and how Williams was struck, and identifying the vehicle and driver involved in this suspected hit-and-run. The community awaits further developments as the comprehensive investigation unfolds.
