Canton, MS (BuzzReport)- Authorities in Canton are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal incident that left a 75-year-old man dead near the former Nichols Middle School on Friday morning. Anderson Walker Police Chief Otha Brown confirmed that the victim, identified as Anderson Walker, was discovered lying unresponsive along Trolio Street by officers responding to a call around dawn. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. According to investigators, the case appears to stem from an altercation between Walker and another man, 56-year-old Marvin Austin. While details of the dispute have not yet been released, police say Austin was taken into custody soon after the discovery and has since been charged with murder. The official cause of death will be determined by the state medical examiner pending an autopsy. The incident marks the fourth homicide recorded in Canton this year, raising concerns among residents who say they are troubled by the city’s growing number of violent crimes.
