Fairhope, AL (BuzzReport) – In what investigators are calling a “well-coordinated scheme with a digital twist,” Fairhope Police announced the arrests of three local residents accused of operating a shoplifting and reselling operation that funneled stolen goods onto social media marketplaces.

The case began on September 13, when Walmart security officers intercepted a couple attempting to leave the store with a shopping cart packed with unpaid merchandise. The suspects fled before police arrived, but surveillance footage captured their vehicle as they sped from the scene.

Four days later, officers spotted the same vehicle parked in Fairhope and watched as a woman stepped out. When approached, she attempted to flee on foot but was quickly detained. Authorities later identified her as Olivia Scott Crawford, 33, who was already wanted on outstanding Baldwin County warrants.

Detectives soon unraveled a deeper operation. A search warrant led investigators to a stash of stolen property, a third suspect, and evidence showing the stolen items—ranging from electronics to home improvement goods—had been advertised for sale online. Merchandise valued at nearly $9,000 was recovered and returned to Walmart, Lowe’s, and Home Depot.

“This wasn’t just casual shoplifting—it was an organized effort to steal, conceal, and profit,” said Fairhope Police Chief [Name], emphasizing the role social media played in enabling the scheme. “These arrests send a strong message: retail theft doesn’t end at the checkout line, and it doesn’t stay hidden on the internet.”

The three individuals now face a slate of charges:

  • Olivia Scott Crawford, 33: Theft of Property (2nd degree), Receiving Stolen Property (2nd degree)
  • Shane Andrew Steiner, 34: Theft of Property (2nd degree), Receiving Stolen Property (2nd degree), Promoting Prison Contraband (fentanyl), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Krystel Gabrielle Mund, 36: Receiving Stolen Property (2nd degree), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Authorities noted that the discovery of fentanyl during the investigation highlights the often-overlapping nature of retail theft and drug-related offenses.

All three suspects are currently being held pending court proceedings. Police said the case remains active as investigators look into whether additional individuals or stolen property are linked to the operation.
