Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – A routine patrol on Government Street Tuesday night led to the recovery of a U-Haul van reported stolen over two months ago and the subsequent arrest of a Mobile woman for theft by fraudulent lease or rental.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers were in the 1300 block of Government Street around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, when they observed a 2024 Ford Transit U-Haul Van. A quick query of the vehicle’s tag revealed it had been flagged as stolen.

Upon approaching the distinctive moving truck, officers located 36-year-old Latasha Hollis inside. An investigation at the scene determined that Hollis had initially taken possession of the U-Haul van from a local business on July 11, 2025, under a rental agreement. However, the vehicle was never returned as stipulated, prompting the company to report it stolen after its lease period expired.

For nearly two months, the white Ford Transit van remained unaccounted for until its chance sighting by alert Mobile officers. Hollis was taken into custody without incident.

Latasha Hollis was arrested on charges of theft by fraudulent lease or rental and transported to Metro Jail. The recovered U-Haul van has been secured, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
