MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) – A 25-year-old Saraland woman is being held in Mobile County Metro Jail, facing a manslaughter charge and multiple drug offenses, following her arrest Wednesday in connection with a fatal fentanyl overdose in Chickasaw. Authorities say Payton Beason was arrested alongside 32-year-old Tyler Thompson of Tuscaloosa, who also faces drug-related charges.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) initiated an investigation Monday evening after being contacted by the Chickasaw Police Department about the death of Kailin Laporte. Laporte’s body was discovered at a residence on 8th Avenue, prompting law enforcement to suspect a drug overdose as the cause.

Investigators quickly identified Beason and Thompson as individuals involved in delivering fentanyl to Laporte. MCSO detectives located the pair at a hotel in Saraland, where both reportedly agreed to be interviewed. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Beason admitted to selling the deadly fentanyl to the victim, with Thompson driving her to complete the transaction.

During a search of the hotel room occupied by Beason and Thompson, MCSO detectives reportedly discovered significant evidence, including drug paraphernalia, a white powdery substance suspected to be illicit drugs, pipes, and cash.

Payton Beason has been formally charged with manslaughter, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession/receiving a controlled substance (based on an existing warrant), and an additional possession of a controlled substance warrant from the Saraland Police Department.

Tyler Thompson was arrested and charged with use/possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. Both remain in Mobile County Metro Jail as the investigation continues and legal proceedings get underway.
