MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) – A routine morning traffic stop escalated into a perilous high-speed pursuit on Thursday, culminating in the arrest of a Mobile man and the shocking discovery of his 5-year-old child in the vehicle. The incident, which traversed Mobile roadways, put both the public and a young passenger in significant peril.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., Mobile Police officers conducting traffic enforcement near Interstate 10 Eastbound and Broad Street observed a vehicle traveling at an excessive rate of speed. Officers initiated a standard traffic stop, activating audible sirens and visual blue lights, but the driver, later identified as 26-year-old Kenan Thigpen, flatly refused to yield.

Thigpen continued to evade law enforcement, leading officers on a pursuit that ended only when he pulled into the Burger King parking lot located at 659 Government Boulevard. Officers swiftly moved in, taking Thigpen into custody without further incident, bringing an end to the tense chase.

The gravity of the situation intensified dramatically following Thigpen’s arrest. During a routine check, officers were stunned to discover a 5-year-old child, Thigpen’s own, present in the vehicle throughout the entire high-speed evasion. The revelation immediately escalated the incident to a child endangerment concern, adding a serious layer to the already severe charges Thigpen now faces.

Kenan Thigpen has been transported to Metro Jail, where he is expected to face multiple charges, including felony attempting to elude law enforcement and reckless endangerment, with additional charges related to child endangerment likely pending. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the welfare of the child or who has taken custody.
