Homicide Investigation Underway in George County; Person of Interest Arrested

George County, MS (BuzzReport) homicide investigation is currently underway in George County, Mississippi, after a deceased individual was discovered at a scene on Finch Road. The George County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported incident at approximately 5:38 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

The George County Criminal Investigations Division (CID) has taken charge of the investigation. A person of interest was identified, and a BOLO was issued, leading to a traffic stop and detention by the Lucedale Police Department and George County Sheriff’s Office. The individual is currently in custody.

Sheriff Mitchell Mixon assured the public that this incident is isolated and poses no ongoing threat to the community. He praised the cooperation between departments, saying, “Thanks to the swift cooperation between our deputies and the Lucedale Police Department, we were able to take a person of interest into custody quickly. We will continue to pursue every lead to ensure justice is served for the victim and their loved ones.”
