Bessemer, AL (BuzzReport) – A tragic incident unfolded in Bessemer, Alabama, on July 6, 2025, when a domestic dispute turned deadly. Gumero Olvera Castro, 33, was shot and killed by his brother-in-law, Luis Rey Guerro Martinez, 35, at their residence in the 800 block of Willow Bend Lane. Responding deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office found Castro suffering from gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between Castro and Martinez. Following an extensive manhunt, Martinez was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol on July 7, 2025, as he attempted to flee into Mexico. A Capital Murder warrant was subsequently obtained against him. Martinez was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on August 5, 2025, with no bond. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office worked closely with U.S. Border Patrol and the Kennedy County Sheriff’s Office in Texas to secure Martinez’s detention.
