North Carolina- A federal judge in Chicago has denied R. Kelly’s request to be released to home detention. According to U.S. District Judge Martha Pacold’s ruling on June 19, the court lacks jurisdiction over Kelly’s case since he has already been convicted and sentenced. Judge Pacold noted that Kelly’s current housing at FCI Butner in North Carolina, outside of the court’s judicial district, means Kelly has not demonstrated a legal basis for the court’s jurisdiction. Kelly’s lawyers had claimed he faced a murder threat while incarcerated. The judge’s decision canceled a planned hearing scheduled for June 20.
