Montgomery, AL (BuzzReport) – Will Boyd, a familiar face in Alabama politics, has announced his candidacy for governor. This marks Boyd’s fourth foray into statewide elections, following previous bids for Congress (2016), Lieutenant Governor (2018), and U.S. Senate (2022). Boyd, a Democrat, framed his past campaigns not as failures, but as crucial opportunities to connect with Alabamians and understand their concerns. “I believe those were all opportunities for me to be seen more by communities all across Alabama, and more importantly, to hear what issues residents of Alabama are facing,” Boyd stated in an interview Monday. He positions himself as a candidate committed to serving the people of Alabama, free from self-serving agendas. “I would love to see a people type of campaign where there’s someone who’s really focused on the people of Alabama and not enriching themselves, or not just getting into an office and trying to entrench themselves to stay there. We need people who don’t care whether or not they’re voted out in the next cycle,” Boyd said. “They just want to do what’s right, and that’s what I’m all about.” Boyd outlined his top three priorities for Alabama as governor: healthcare, economic development, and community stability. He emphasized that each of these priorities is interconnected and addresses issues he has observed firsthand across the state over the past decade. “One of the things that I traditionally have done is, as soon as I reach a county, I talk about the top issues facing that county,” he explained. “I immediately try to, in my speech, or in my time with people who are in the area, share what I believe could be a resolution to their problems.” Boyd’s background is diverse. Originally from South Carolina, he moved to Alabama around 2010 after living in Illinois. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of South Carolina, an MBA from Regis University, a PhD in Religion from Christian Bible College, a PhD in Organization and Management from Capella University, and a Doctor of Psychology with a Christian worldview (PsyD) from St. James The Elder Theological Seminary. He currently serves as the pastor at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Florence, Alabama. Boyd’s entrance into the gubernatorial race adds another dynamic to the upcoming election, promising a focus on the everyday concerns of Alabamians and a call for principled leadership. His campaign is expected to emphasize grassroots engagement and offer specific solutions tailored to the needs of individual communities across the state.
