Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – A male juvenile was killed in a shooting that occurred on the 1900 block of Calmes Street on Thursday afternoon. Mobile Police Department (MPD) officers responded to the scene at approximately 3:54 p.m. on June 12, 2025, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered the juvenile victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the street. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Preliminary investigations suggest the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the victim and another individual who was seated in a vehicle on Calmes Street. According to MPD, both individuals discharged firearms at one another during the confrontation. Tragically, the juvenile victim was struck by a bullet. Due to the victim’s age, the Mobile Police Department will not be releasing his identity. The shooting occurred in close proximity to Rickarby Park, where a new camera project is currently underway. While the project aims to enhance safety and security in the park, the cameras were not yet operational at the time of the incident. Existing Mobile Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) cameras at Rickarby Park also failed to capture the shooting, as it transpired on the street outside of the park’s boundaries. The Mobile Police Department is actively investigating the incident and urging anyone with information to come forward. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life and are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice,” stated an MPD spokesperson. “We encourage anyone who witnessed the shooting, or has any information that could assist our investigation, to contact us immediately.” Anyone with information relating to the incident is encouraged to contact the Mobile Police Department directly at 251-208-7211. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by texting 844-251-0644 or visiting mobilepd.org/crimetip. The MPD assures that all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. The investigation is ongoing.
