New Mobile Airport Terminal Sees Another Delay, Completion Pushed to September 2026

The Mobile Airport Authority announced another delay in the completion of the brand new Mobile International Airport terminal, pushing the expected finish date to September 2026. The $380 million project, which began construction in 2024, will feature five new terminals and a parking garage.

According to Luckett Robinson, Chairman of the Mobile Airport Authority, the delay is a result of prioritizing the project’s budget over its timeline. “We had to choose whether being on budget or being on time was more important,” Robinson explained. “The Mayor and I agreed that completing this on budget was the biggest priority.”

The airport authority is confident that the terminal will be a success, providing a great gateway for business and leisure travelers to come to Mobile. With the airport’s proximity to downtown, Robinson believes the new terminal will lead the city’s growth and development.

The authority has started conversations with major airlines to secure service agreements for the new terminal. “We believe with the new terminal, we’re going to be well situated to do that,” Robinson said.

However, the delay has raised concerns among Mobilians, who have grown accustomed to push backs on construction projects around the city. Local resident Amy Timmons expressed her frustration, “I’m beginning to wonder if it’s on purpose, or are they doing this right. I don’t believe they are telling us the whole story behind all these delayed projects.”

The Mobile Airport Authority remains committed to completing the project on budget, with the new terminal expected to bring increased economic growth and development to the area.
