PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (BuzzReport) – A 62-year-old Florida man is facing serious charges after being accused of sexually assaulting a young boy and knowingly transmitting HIV. Bobby McAffee was arrested on Friday by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office following an investigation that began on August 23, 2024.

According to authorities, the investigation was triggered after a victim reported a sexual assault that occurred when he was just 8 years old in unincorporated St. Petersburg. Officials have not disclosed the current age of the victim.

Detectives allege that McAffee pinned the boy to the ground, restrained his arms above his head, and then sexually battered him.

During an interview with detectives on Friday, McAffee reportedly admitted to having “sexual contact” with the victim. The sheriff’s office also confirmed that McAffee admitted to being HIV positive. The victim recently discovered that he too is HIV positive, according to officials.

McAffee has been charged with one count of sexual battery of a child less than 12 years old, a serious felony offense.

He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday and is currently being held on a $250,000 bond, according to jail records.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has stated that they will not be releasing any further details about the case in order to protect the victim’s identity and privacy. The investigation remains ongoing.
