Atmore Waffle House Parking Lot Altercation Leads To Serious Investigation

ATMORE, AL (BuzzReport) — What began as a reported physical altercation and shots-fired call at a Waffle House parking lot in Atmore has now expanded into a multi-agency investigation after a blood-covered vehicle was discovered several miles away in Monroe County.

The Buzz Report has learned additional details surrounding the early Sunday morning incident, which reportedly began at approximately 2:50 a.m. in the Waffle House parking lot in Atmore.

According to information provided to The Buzz Report, two individuals became involved in a physical confrontation. One person allegedly struck another individual in the head multiple times with what was believed to be a firearm, commonly described as pistol-whipping, before leaving the area in a vehicle.

The injured individual then reportedly retrieved a firearm and fired several shots in the nearby Popeyes parking lot.

Atmore Police previously reported that, at the time of their initial investigation, no gunshot victims had been reported and no damage to vehicles or buildings had been identified. The department said the incident remained under investigation.

Blood-Covered Vehicle Discovered In Monroe County

The investigation took another turn when Monroe County deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had reportedly run off the roadway and was covered in blood.

When deputies arrived, they reportedly discovered a young male inside the vehicle along with a pistol located nearby.

The individual was identified as 23-year-old Zebulun Deon Nettles, a Monroe County resident.

Nettles was subsequently booked into the Monroe County Jail on a DUI charge. However, authorities have not charged him with a crime related to the Atmore Waffle House incident at this time.

According to information obtained by The Buzz Report, Nettles is believed to be connected to the Atmore incident, although the circumstances surrounding that connection remain under investigation and no criminal charge related to the shooting has been announced against him.

Additional charges could potentially be filed depending on the outcome of the investigation.

The Buzz Report has also learned that the vehicle Nettles was driving is registered to his mother. Information circulating regarding a possible family connection to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has also surfaced, but those details have not been independently confirmed by The Buzz Report and should be treated as unconfirmed.

Multiple Agencies Respond

The investigation brought multiple law enforcement agencies to the scene in Monroe County, including the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Atmore Police Department, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

A witness at the Monroe County scene described the situation as chaotic at times, with several members of the detainee’s family reportedly involved in heated arguments as law enforcement continued its investigation.

Authorities are now working to determine exactly what happened during the initial confrontation in Atmore, who was involved, how the firearm was used and whether the individual later located in Monroe County played a role in the reported shooting.

At this time, Nettles has not been charged with any crime in connection with the Waffle House incident, and the investigation remains active.
