Prichard Community Comes Together To Restore And Beautify Historic Pollard Park

Prichard, AL (BuzzReport) — A strong sense of community pride was on display Monday morning as volunteers, local leaders, city departments, and community partners came together to roll up their sleeves and give historic Pollard Park some much-needed attention.

The community cleanup and beautification effort brought residents and volunteers together for a day of service focused on improving one of Prichard’s important public spaces. The event was part of a nationwide community improvement project hosted by Keep America Beautiful, with Prichard selected from cities across Alabama to participate in the initiative.

For those involved, the cleanup was about more than simply picking up litter. It was an opportunity to invest time, energy, and pride into a neighborhood park that belongs to the entire community.

A number of local partners helped make the effort possible, including Dollar Tree General Managers Mary Green and Josh Holman, along with Denise Taylor of Keep Alabama Beautiful.

Dollar Tree also played a key role in connecting the project with Prichard resident Sherman Williams, who helped bring the right city departments and community partners together and ultimately helped identify Pollard Park as the location for the project.

Keep America Beautiful also donated reusable garbage bags as part of the effort, with the goal of encouraging residents to properly dispose of trash and helping combat litter that is often thrown from vehicle windows.

Prichard Mayor Carletta Davis and Councilwoman Teresa Fox Bettis stopped by during the cleanup to welcome volunteers, thank the organizations involved, and participate in the effort.

Their presence underscored the community-driven nature of the project — with city leadership, residents, businesses, volunteers, and local organizations all working together toward the same goal.

The City of Prichard Parks & Recreation Department and Prichard Public Services Department were also recognized for their work and support in helping coordinate and carry out the cleanup.

But perhaps the most important part of the morning was the people who showed up.

Volunteers gave their time and energy to help improve Pollard Park, demonstrating that community improvement doesn’t always begin with a major project or a large investment. Sometimes, it starts with neighbors willing to pick up a bag, clean up a park, and take pride in where they live.

Pollard Park now stands as a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

From local businesses and national organizations to city leaders, departments, and everyday residents, Monday’s effort demonstrated that keeping Prichard clean and beautiful is a responsibility that can be shared by everyone.
