Shots Fired After Physical Altercation Outside Atmore Waffle House

ATMORE, AL (BuzzReport) — An early-morning confrontation in Atmore escalated into gunfire Sunday after a physical altercation in the parking lot of a Waffle House, according to authorities.

At approximately 2:50 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired and a physical altercation in the Waffle House parking lot.

Investigators say one individual reportedly struck another man in the head multiple times with what was believed to be a firearm, in what appeared to be a pistol-whipping attack. The individual then left the area in a vehicle.

The injured man reportedly drew a firearm and fired several shots in the nearby Popeyes parking lot.

Despite the gunfire, authorities report that no gunshot victims have been identified and no damage to vehicles or buildings has been reported at this time.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine exactly what led to the confrontation and subsequent gunfire.

Investigators say they are currently pursuing strong leads in the case. Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation progresses and when authorities determine it is appropriate to do so.
