Coffeeville, AL (BuzzReport) — A Semmes man is facing serious felony charges following an investigation into a hunting cabin fire reported in Coffeeville last month.

Thomas Norman II has been charged with first-degree insurance fraud and second-degree arson in connection with the August 21 fire. Investigators allege the circumstances surrounding the blaze warranted further investigation, ultimately leading authorities to pursue criminal charges against Norman.

The case took another turn on September 13 when Norman was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following his arrest, authorities began the process of returning him to Alabama, where he is expected to face the charges in the jurisdiction where the alleged offenses occurred.

The allegations involve both the destruction of property by fire and an alleged attempt to commit insurance fraud, making the case one that could carry significant legal consequences if Norman is convicted.

Authorities have not indicated that anyone was injured in the cabin fire. Additional details about the circumstances of the blaze, the alleged insurance claim, and the evidence supporting the charges may become available as the case moves forward.

Norman is expected to be extradited back to Alabama to face the pending charges.
