MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) — Mobile police are investigating a frightening early-morning confrontation in which a man was injured after an unknown suspect allegedly attacked him with a machete while attempting to steal his bicycle. According to the Mobile Police Department, the incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026, at approximately 4:00 a.m. The male victim made his way to the department’s Second Precinct seeking help after sustaining injuries during the encounter. Investigators determined that the victim had been in the 5400 block of Highway 90 West when he was confronted by an unknown male suspect. Police say the suspect attempted to take the victim’s bicycle and, during the confrontation, repeatedly swung a machete at the victim. The victim was cut during the attack and suffered injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. Despite the seriousness of the weapon involved, the victim was able to reach the Second Precinct, where the incident was reported to police. The circumstances surrounding the confrontation, including what led to the encounter and the suspect’s actions before and after the alleged attempted theft, remain under investigation. Police have not released a description of the suspect or indicated whether an arrest has been made. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and work to identify the person responsible.
