Body Found Inside Vehicle Along I-20 in Rankin County; Death Investigation Underway

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (BuzzReport) — Authorities have launched a death investigation after a person was found deceased inside a vehicle along Interstate 20 in Rankin County on Thursday.

Pelahatchie Police Chief Robert Mahaffey confirmed that emergency crews responded to what was initially reported as a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 eastbound near the Scott County line at approximately mile marker 72.

When first responders arrived, they discovered a lone occupant inside the vehicle. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the victim has not yet been positively identified, and investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

The Rankin County Deputy Coroner responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and oversee the recovery of the victim. Authorities have not released the person’s age, gender, or any information regarding what may have led to the incident.
