Penske Truck Rental to Potentially Relocate Brookley Field Facility in 2027 as Mobile International Airport Takes Shape

MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — As construction of the new Mobile International Airport continues to reshape the Brookley Aeroplex, one longtime business has confirmed it will be relocating to make way for the airport’s future.

A Penske Truck Rental official at the local Penske store confirmed to The Buzz Report that the company’s Brookley Field location will relocate in 2027. The move comes because the property the business occupies is owned by the Mobile Airport Authority, which is leading development of the new airport terminal and surrounding facilities.

According to Corporate officials the local Penske Store will not be relocating or closing.

Airport Development Continues to Transform Brookley

For months, residents have questioned what will happen to the businesses and outparcels surrounding the new airport as construction progresses.

Some community members have expressed concern that several existing commercial buildings near the entrance to the airport diminish the visual appeal of the new terminal, while others have wondered whether surrounding properties would eventually be redeveloped as the airport expands.

Penske’s planned departure signals that at least some changes are beginning to take shape.

Because its property is owned by the Mobile Airport Authority, the company will be required to vacate the site as airport development moves forward.

“Penske remains committed to serving its customers in the Mobile market from this convenient and important location near the airport. The company has made significant investments in this facility as well as hiring employees at this location. We have no current intention of relocating these operations and have recently met with the Mobile Airport Authority to discuss their future plans and expressed our desire to remain at the location.”

According to company spokesman Randolph P. Ryerson, the company has a lease on the land from the airport authority through at least 2057. The facility was also built by the company.
