MOBILE, Ala. — A 59-year-old man is behind bars after Mobile police say he opened fire on a vehicle Tuesday morning, injuring two men who then drove to Mobile Police Headquarters seeking emergency assistance. According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, to an incident outside MPD Headquarters after two male victims arrived with gunshot injuries. Investigators determined that one of the men had been struck by gunfire, while the second victim suffered a graze wound. The victim who sustained the gunshot wound was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The second victim declined medical treatment at the scene. As detectives began investigating, they learned the shooting had not occurred at police headquarters. Instead, the victims had driven there after the vehicle they were traveling in came under gunfire on Seminole Street. Police quickly shifted their investigation to the original crime scene, where detectives gathered evidence, interviewed witnesses, and worked to identify the suspected shooter. Authorities said their investigation led them to Joe Lee, 59, who was located later Tuesday at a residence on Lott Street. Lee was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Mobile Metro Jail. Police have not released information regarding what may have led to the shooting or whether the suspect and victims knew one another. Officials also have not announced the specific criminal charges Lee is facing, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Mobile Police Department as detectives continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
