MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A shooting investigation in Mobile has resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old man after police say the person who was wounded accidentally shot himself while attempting to fire at a vehicle during a physical altercation.

The Mobile Police Department released an update Monday regarding the incident, which occurred on Friday, June 26, 2026, in the 3000 block of Heather Street.

According to investigators, officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 5:19 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police said the victim initially refused medical transport to a local hospital.

As detectives continued their investigation, they determined the shooting unfolded after the victim became involved in a verbal dispute with a man known to him. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical fight.

Police say the victim was the individual who initiated the confrontation. During the altercation, investigators allege he retrieved a firearm and fired at a vehicle. In the process, he accidentally shot himself.

Following the investigation, officers arrested Christopher Moffett, 24, who was transported to Metro Jail. Authorities have not yet released the specific charges he faces.
