Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)—A 48-year-old Prichard man is behind bars after authorities say he stole a lawn mower from a Lowe’s store on Airport Boulevard before abandoning the machine while it was still running in a nearby parking lot.

According to jail records, Robert Howard was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail on multiple criminal charges connected to the incident.

Investigators say Howard allegedly stole the lawn mower from the Lowe’s located at 7760 Airport Boulevard. Authorities said the mower was later discovered abandoned in a nearby parking lot, where it had reportedly been left running before officers arrived.

Howard now faces several charges, including first-degree theft of property, possession of burglar’s tools, giving a false name to a law enforcement officer, second-degree possession of marijuana, and possession or use of drug paraphernalia.

Under Alabama law, first-degree theft of property is considered a serious felony offense and can carry significant prison time if convicted.

Officials have not yet released additional details regarding how the theft unfolded or whether store employees attempted to stop the suspect before he fled the area.

Howard remained in custody at Mobile County Metro Jail as of Tuesday. Additional court proceedings are expected in the coming days.
