WILSONVILLE, Ala. (BuzzReport)— A late-night shooting investigation is underway in Wilsonville after two people were found suffering from gunshot wounds Saturday night, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Shelby County 911 received a call around 9:05 p.m. on May 16 requesting an ambulance for a possible gunshot victim in the area of Cherokee Drive. The caller reported that the injured individual had run to a nearby residence seeking help.

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies arrived within minutes and assisted emergency medical personnel as they treated the victim at the scene. Before being transported by ambulance to UAB Hospital, the victim was able to provide deputies with a brief statement about what happened.

Based on information gathered at the scene, investigators quickly determined there was a second shooting victim at another nearby residence. Deputies located that individual suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper shoulder.

Authorities then worked alongside emergency crews to establish a helicopter landing zone so the second victim could be airlifted to UAB Hospital for treatment.

Investigators say a possible person of interest has been detained as deputies continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine exactly what led to the shooting.

At this time, officials say there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation remains active, and additional details are expected to be released as more information becomes available.
