MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — Mobile Police Department officials provided an update Thursday regarding a deadly shooting investigation that left one person dead and another injured. According to police, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the individual who had previously been transported to the hospital with injuries was released and later brought to MPD Headquarters for questioning. During the investigation, detectives determined that Joseph Smith IV, 28, allegedly fired shots at the deceased victim before an exchange of gunfire occurred. Police say Smith was struck during the shooting, suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Following questioning, Smith was arrested and transported to Metro Jail. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding possible charges or the identity of the deceased victim. The investigation remains ongoing.
