MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (BuzzReport) — Authorities have identified the fisherman who went missing in waters near Dauphin Island as search crews continue a coordinated, multi-agency operation along the coast.

Officials with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the missing man is 20-year-old CJ Pitts of Grand Bay. Pitts was reported missing after an incident near Cedar Point Pier, prompting an urgent response from local and regional agencies.

An Incident Command Station has been established at Cedar Point Pier, serving as the central hub for search operations. Authorities say multiple agencies are actively involved, deploying resources both on the water and along the shoreline in an effort to locate Pitts.

Search crews are battling challenging conditions, including strong coastal currents that can complicate recovery efforts and reduce visibility in the water. Despite these obstacles, officials say teams are continuing to methodically cover targeted areas based on available information.

For safety and operational efficiency, Cedar Point Pier has been closed to the public while the search is underway.

Authorities announced that Thursday’s search efforts will conclude at 7 p.m., with operations set to resume at 7 a.m. Friday. Officials emphasized that the pause is standard procedure in extended search missions, allowing crews to regroup and reassess strategies before continuing.

As the search enters a critical phase, officials say they remain committed to locating Pitts and are urging the public to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to operate without interference.

No additional details have been released at this time as the investigation and search efforts remain ongoing.
