MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport)— A police pursuit in the area of Dauphin Island Parkway escalated into a potentially dangerous situation Thursday after officers reported that shots were fired during the incident.

According to preliminary information, officers initially attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of Dauphin Island Parkway and Boykin Boulevard. The driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit through the area. During the course of that pursuit, authorities say a subject reportedly discharged a firearm, though critical details surrounding the gunfire remain unclear.

Investigators have not yet determined whether the shots were fired before or during the pursuit, what may have been targeted, or if anything—or anyone—was struck. Officials emphasized that the circumstances surrounding the gunfire are still under active investigation.

The pursuit ultimately came to an end near Dauphin Island Parkway and Hamilton Boulevard, where the vehicle stopped and at least one subject was taken into custody without further incident.

At this time, police have not released the identity of the individual in custody, nor have they confirmed whether additional suspects may be involved. Authorities also have not reported any injuries.

Law enforcement officials say more information will be released once details are verified. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to piece together exactly what occurred during the pursuit and the reported gunfire.
