McIntosh, Alabama (BuzzReport)- McIntosh Elementary School officials confirmed that an unloaded firearm was discovered in a student’s backpack earlier this week, prompting an immediate response from school administrators and law enforcement.

In a letter sent to families on Monday, Principal Ebony Johnson said the situation was handled “with the utmost care and urgency” as soon as it was identified.

According to Johnson, school officials promptly notified the student’s parents, local law enforcement, and the district superintendent. Authorities responded to the campus and the matter was quickly contained without incident.

“At no time were other students aware of the situation, and there was no disruption to the school day,” Johnson stated in the letter. “Thanks to the swift actions of our community partners, the situation was resolved safely and without incident.”

School officials emphasized that student and staff safety remains the district’s highest priority. Johnson added that the school will continue reinforcing established safety protocols and working closely with families and public safety partners to maintain a secure learning environment.

The incident remains under review by school officials and law enforcement.
