FOLEY, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A 42-year-old Gulf Breeze man is in custody following an investigation into an alleged abduction that began in Florida and ended in south Alabama, according to law enforcement officials. Shortly after noon on Friday, April 24, 2026, officers with the Foley Police Department responded to a complaint involving a reported kidnapping in progress. Authorities were advised that Grant Barrett, 42, of Gulf Breeze, had allegedly taken a 71-year-old male acquaintance against his will while traveling from Gulf Breeze toward Foley. Investigators said Barrett was accused of threatening force during the encounter. Foley officers were able to quickly locate Barrett and the elderly victim shortly after the initial report. Upon contact, officials confirmed the 71-year-old man was unharmed. Following an on-scene investigation, Barrett—identified as Grant David Barrett—was arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree marijuana possession, and third-degree criminal mischief. Authorities also confirmed coordination between agencies during the investigation, including the Santa Rosa County Major Crimes Unit. Officials stated that additional charges are expected in Santa Rosa County as the investigation continues. Barrett is currently being held without bond at the Baldwin County Correctional Facility. Law enforcement officials have not released further details regarding the nature of the relationship between Barrett and the victim, and the investigation remains active.
