ATMORE, Ala. (BuzzReport)— A routine traffic stop in Atmore on Friday resulted in the arrest of a 52-year-old woman and the seizure of illegal drugs and multiple firearms, including one weapon with an unusual and improvised design, according to police. Officers with the Atmore Police Department’s Narcotic/Vice Division initiated the stop near Highway 21, authorities said in a statement shared on social media. During the investigation, officers identified the driver as Bobbie Jo Kelton, of Canoe, Alabama. Police reported that Kelton was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of three firearms. Among them was a weapon that drew particular attention from investigators due to its unconventional construction. According to police, the firearm featured a high-gloss pearl synthetic stock and what appeared to be a section of a crutch repurposed as a barrel guard. Authorities said the weapon is believed to be a .22-caliber rifle, possibly chambered for long and/or short ammunition, though its exact make and model remain under investigation. Officials tentatively referred to it as a “RemChester Custom Model,” noting uncertainty about its origin and manufacturer. The firearm also included several improvised modifications. Police said it appeared to have a Nerf-style hardened plastic optic mounted to a Picatinny rail and secured with electrical tape. Additional electrical tape was reportedly used to enhance the weapon’s grip. Investigators further observed what appeared to be a handgun holster attached in a way that suggested an attempt to create a recoil-assisting device. Authorities noted that the weapon’s practical functionality remains questionable. The two other firearms recovered from the vehicle included a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun and another handgun of unknown caliber. Kelton was taken into custody and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center. She faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to jail records. The investigation remains ongoing.
