Mobile, Ala. (BuzzReport) – A man is behind bars after a violent confrontation involving a machete left a victim injured and robbed in a Mobile neighborhood. According to authorities, officers responded to the 600 block of Whitney Street in Mobile on Monday, April 13, 2026, at approximately 1:15 p.m. following reports of an assault. When officers arrived on the scene, they determined that a male suspect had confronted a known male victim while armed with a machete. The encounter quickly escalated into violence, with the victim sustaining cuts during the attack. Investigators later determined that the suspect not only assaulted the victim but also took property from him during the incident, elevating the severity of the case. Through the course of the investigation, police were able to identify and locate the suspect. Jamal Overton, 31, was taken into custody without further incident and transported to Metro Jail. At this time, Overton is facing a charge of first-degree burglary. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the victim’s condition but confirmed he received medical treatment following the attack. Officials say the case remains under active investigation, and additional charges could be possible as detectives continue to gather evidence.
