GARDENDALE, Ala. (BuzzReport)— Authorities in Gardendale are investigating an unusual bank robbery after an elderly woman allegedly took money from a local bank and then voluntarily turned it over to police shortly afterward. According to the Gardendale Police Department, the incident occurred around 9:03 a.m. on April 10 at the Regions Bank branch located on Odum Road. Investigators say the woman entered the bank and presented a note demanding money. After receiving the cash, police say the woman went directly to the police department, where she surrendered the money without incident. Bank officials confirmed that no employees or customers were harmed during the encounter, and no injuries were reported. Authorities believe the woman acted alone. Her caregiver has been notified, and officials say the situation is being handled appropriately. The woman is currently in custody, and formal charges are pending. Regions Bank temporarily closed the branch following the incident, and the company’s corporate security team is cooperating with investigators. The FBI’s Birmingham division is also assisting in the ongoing investigation.
