Repeat Offender Arrested on Child Exploitation Charges Following Cyber Tip

Mobile County, AL (BuzzReport)- Authorities say a 39-year-old man previously convicted of attempting to abuse a young child is back in custody after investigators uncovered new alleged offenses involving child pornography.

According to a release, detectives with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit received a cyber tip from Google that led them to identify Walter Rainey as a suspect in an ongoing investigation.

Officials noted that Rainey had been convicted in 2025 of attempted abuse of a child under the age of 12, raising immediate concern among investigators when his name surfaced again through the tip.

Following an investigation, Rainey was arrested on April 9 and charged with five counts of unlawful possession of child pornography.

Law enforcement agencies routinely rely on cyber tips from technology companies, which are required by federal law to report suspected instances of child exploitation detected on their platforms. These tips are then forwarded to specialized units such as ICAC task forces for further investigation.

Authorities have not released additional details about the evidence in this case but emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials also reiterated the seriousness of crimes involving the exploitation of children and urged the public to report any suspicious online activity. If convicted, Rainey could face significant prison time under state and federal laws governing child pornography offenses.
