CHICAGO, Ill. — A 42-year-old man has died after being shot multiple times during an argument Thursday afternoon in Chicago’s Grand Boulevard neighborhood, according to authorities. The victim, identified as AJ Johnson, was involved in a verbal dispute that escalated into gunfire around 5:34 p.m. in the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard, police said. Preliminary reports indicate that Johnson and another individual were engaged in an argument when the situation turned violent. During the confrontation, the other man allegedly produced a firearm and opened fire, striking Johnson several times. Johnson sustained gunshot wounds to the chest, right shoulder, and left hand. Emergency responders transported him to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he later died from his injuries. The suspect fled the scene immediately following the shooting and remains at large. No arrests have been made. Area detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have not yet released a description of the suspect or additional details, citing the ongoing nature of the case. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as investigators work to piece together what led to the deadly confrontation.
