MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport)— Multiple families have been displaced following an apartment fire Monday afternoon at the Knollwood Apartments, according to the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department. Fire crews were dispatched to the complex at approximately 3:57 p.m. on April 6 after reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke billowing from one of the apartment buildings, prompting an immediate escalation of the response. Due to the size of the structure and the intensity of the smoke, the incident commander called for a second alarm, bringing in additional personnel and equipment to contain the blaze. Authorities say the fire originated in an upstairs unit. Two upper-level apartments sustained significant fire and smoke damage, while two units below were impacted by water damage as crews worked to extinguish the flames. All residents inside the building were able to evacuate safely, and no injuries have been reported. At least four families have been displaced as a result of the fire. It is unclear at this time what caused the blaze, and the incident remains under investigation.
