MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BuzzReport) — Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies announced the results of a coordinated crime reduction initiative in Alabama’s capital city, highlighting what officials described as a significant disruption of illegal activity.

During a joint press conference in Montgomery, authorities outlined the outcomes of Operation Southern Star, a two-week enforcement effort conducted throughout March. The operation brought together officers from the Montgomery Area Crime Suppression (MACS) unit, special agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation, and multiple federal and local partners.

According to officials, the initiative resulted in the seizure of 52 firearms, the arrest of 63 individuals, and the execution of 40 drug-related seizures across the city. Law enforcement also carried out seven search warrants tied to ongoing investigations.

Authorities reported that $10,341 in cash, believed to be connected to criminal activity, was also confiscated during the operation.

Officials emphasized that the effort targeted violent offenders, illegal firearms possession, and drug-related crimes, all of which they say contribute to broader public safety concerns in Montgomery. The operation focused on areas identified through intelligence and crime data as having elevated levels of criminal activity.

Law enforcement leaders described Operation Southern Star as a clear example of the impact that can be achieved through interagency collaboration. By combining resources, intelligence, and manpower, agencies were able to conduct coordinated enforcement actions aimed at reducing violence and disrupting criminal networks.

While officials did not release specific details about individual cases or suspects, they noted that many of those arrested face charges related to weapons violations, narcotics offenses, and other criminal activity.

Authorities say efforts like Operation Southern Star will continue as part of an ongoing strategy to address crime trends and enhance public safety across Alabama.

“This operation reflects the strength of our partnerships and a shared commitment to protecting our communities,” officials said during the briefing.

Law enforcement agencies involved indicated that additional operations may be planned in the future as they continue working to reduce violent crime and hold offenders accountable.

The investigation into cases connected to Operation Southern Star remains ongoing.
