Mobile Woman Charged in Fatal Theodore Hit-and-Run

THEODORE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A Mobile woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Theodore resident earlier this month, according to court and jail records.

Authorities say 40-year-old Jennifer Howell is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death. The charge stems from a crash that occurred on or about March 21, 2026.

According to court documents, Howell is accused of being the driver of a vehicle involved in a collision that resulted in the death of Amanda Godwin. The documents state that Howell allegedly failed to immediately stop and remain at the scene, as required by law.

The case drew public attention after the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) issued a request for assistance in identifying a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident. Investigators had been searching for a red Jeep Grand Cherokee that was reportedly seen in the area around the time of the crash.

Officials said the vehicle was spotted near Theodore Dawes Road in the vicinity of Gunn Road and Creel Road at approximately 1:30 a.m. on March 21.

Following the public appeal and subsequent investigation, Howell was taken into custody. Jail records indicate she was booked into the Mobile Metro Jail on March 29.

Her bond has been set at $15,000.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details at this
