Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — The Mobile Airport Authority is undergoing a leadership transition as its executive director, Andy Wilson, steps down from his role after serving since October 2024.

According to Sandy Stimpson, who currently chairs the airport authority, Wilson made the personal decision to resign. No further details surrounding his departure have been publicly released.

Wilson’s exit comes at a critical time for the agency, as construction continues on the highly anticipated Mobile International Airport terminal near downtown Mobile. The project is considered a transformative development for the region’s air travel infrastructure and economic growth.

Stimpson praised Wilson’s contributions, noting that his extensive knowledge and experience in aviation project development helped position the new terminal for long-term success. His leadership played a key role in advancing the project during its early and most complex phases.

In response to the leadership change, the authority announced Wednesday that Adam Hays, who currently serves as chief development officer, has been appointed acting executive director. Hays will now oversee the airport’s operations and guide the new terminal project through its final stages.

Airport officials say construction of the terminal is expected to be substantially complete by August. Throughout September, staff will undergo operational training to prepare for the facility’s launch. The first commercial flights from the new terminal are projected to begin in October.

The transition marks a pivotal moment for the Mobile Airport Authority as it works to deliver one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the city’s recent history while maintaining continuity in leadership.
