Lucedale, MS (BuzzReport) — A Lucedale woman has been arrested and charged following an investigation into a reported theft involving more than $20,000 in cash, according to the George County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say deputies arrested Megan Cook, 25, of Lucedale, on March 4, 2026, in connection with a report that was originally filed in December 2025. Investigators launched an inquiry after receiving allegations that a significant amount of cash had been stolen.

Following the investigation, Cook was formally charged after authorities determined she had allegedly taken more than $20,000 in cash.

Cook appeared before a judge for her initial court appearance and was later released after posting a $10,000 commercial bond, according to officials.

Mitchell Mixon said investigators work carefully to ensure cases are fully examined before charges are filed.

“Our investigators work diligently to follow the facts in every case,” Mixon said in a statement. “When someone is accused of taking advantage of others, we will pursue the matter thoroughly and make sure it is brought before the court.”

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft. The case remains under review as it proceeds through the court system.
