Lee County Man Arrested on Multiple Charges Following Domestic Abuse Investigation

Lee County, AL (BuzzReport) — A Lee County man has been arrested and charged with multiple serious offenses following an investigation into allegations of prolonged abuse against his wife.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on Feb. 17, 2026, after authorities received a report alleging that a man had sexually, physically, and mentally abused his wife. Investigators say evidence gathered during the investigation indicated the abuse had been ongoing for several years.

Authorities identified the suspect as Brian Scott Barrett, 53, of Opelika. Investigators obtained warrants related to incidents that allegedly occurred on Lee Road 414 in the Beauregard community.

On Feb. 24, investigators with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office traveled to Lanett, where Barrett was taken into custody at his place of employment.

Barrett is charged with:

• One count of Rape in the First Degree
• One count of Sodomy in the First Degree
• One count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree
• One count of Domestic Violence in the Third Degree

Officials say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Following a hearing under Aniah’s Law, Barrett was granted bond. Authorities say he posted a $120,000 bond and was released from the Lee County Detention Center on Feb. 26, 2026.
