Gulfport, MS (BuzzReport) — An 18-year-old Gulfport man has been arrested and charged with homicide in connection with a fatal incident discovered during a welfare check last month.

According to the Gulfport Police Department, officers responded to a welfare check at approximately 7:34 a.m. on February 13, 2026, in the 3900 block of 21st Street in Gulfport.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim deceased inside a vehicle. The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Rogeick Deandre Cohea III.

Following an investigation by detectives, 18-year-old Ulrick Lamont Ellis, also of Gulfport, was identified as the suspect. Investigators determined that Cohea was killed during a robbery that went wrong.

Authorities said Ellis was located on March 8 with assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Mississippi Capitol Police. During the operation, Ellis barricaded himself inside a location and refused to surrender. Officers ultimately deployed CS gas, forcing Ellis out of the barricaded position before taking him into custody.

Ellis has been charged with one count of homicide. Additional details regarding his court appearance or bond have not yet been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
