Victim Identified in Early Morning Fatal Crash on Old Shell Road

Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Authorities have identified the victim in a deadly early-morning traffic accident that occurred Monday along Old Shell Road.

The victim has been identified as Carlos Funez, 21. Police say the incident happened on Monday, February 23, 2026, at approximately 3:15 a.m. in the area of Old Shell Road and Cosgrove Drive in Mobile.

According to investigators, officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a traffic accident. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim deceased in the westbound lane of Old Shell Road. Further investigation revealed that Funez was standing outside of his vehicle with its hazard lights activated when he was struck by another vehicle traveling westbound.

Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No additional details regarding potential charges have been released.
