Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A troubling rise in deadly traffic crashes has prompted the Mobile Police Department to intensify efforts aimed at improving roadway safety across Mobile. According to police, eight traffic-related fatalities have been recorded in the community so far this year. Investigators say speed was a contributing factor in six of those deaths. By comparison, at this point last year, the department had investigated four traffic fatalities. In response to the increase, officers will conduct heightened patrols in high-traffic corridors and areas with a history of serious crashes. Enforcement will focus primarily on speeding, along with other traffic violations that contribute to collisions resulting in severe injury or loss of life. Police officials stress that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes, putting not only drivers but also passengers, pedestrians, and other motorists at risk. Motorists are urged to obey posted speed limits, remain attentive, and drive responsibly. Authorities say compliance with traffic laws is critical to reversing the current trend and preventing further loss of life on Mobile’s roadways.
