Theodore, AL (BuzzReport) — A tragic collision between a passenger train and a vehicle claimed the lives of a mother and her young daughter early Saturday morning in Theodore.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded to a traffic accident at approximately 6:51 a.m. on February 21, 2026, in the area of Cary Hamilton Road at the railroad crossing. Mobile Fire-Rescue Department also responded to the scene.

Authorities said an Amtrak passenger train struck a vehicle at the crossing. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Brittany Williams, and her 8-year-old daughter were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate that the railroad crossing’s safety mechanisms — including the audible warning signals, flashing lights, and crossing arms — were functioning properly at the time of the collision. Investigators also determined that the train continued traveling approximately 2,100 feet after impact before it was able to come to a complete stop.

Officials confirmed that no passengers aboard the train were injured.

The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding what may have caused the vehicle to be on the tracks at the time of the crash.

The Mobile Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
