Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — The Mobile City Council has approved six resolutions authorizing funding for vegetation removal and stormwater drainage improvements across the city, marking a proactive effort to reduce flooding risks and strengthen neighborhood infrastructure.

City leaders said the projects are designed to improve water flow in problem areas, remove debris that can clog drainage systems, and better prepare communities for heavy rainfall events.

In District 1, crews will remove vegetation and debris along multiple corridors, including Mobile Street to Three Mile Creek, Emogene Street to Ralston Road, and sections of the East I-65 Service Road. In addition, drainage improvements are planned along Springhill Avenue near Three Mile Creek, an area that has experienced persistent water management challenges.

In District 2, vegetation and debris will be cleared from Pinehill Drive to Crenshaw Street. Officials say the work is intended to improve water flow and enhance the overall capacity of the drainage system in the surrounding neighborhood.

In District 3, drainage improvements are planned near the intersection of Keeling Road and Kent Road, with the goal of addressing runoff issues and reducing the potential for localized flooding.

Council members emphasized that investments in stormwater infrastructure are critical to protecting homes, supporting families, and strengthening neighborhoods as the city continues to grow. The approved projects reflect an ongoing commitment to long-term planning and resilience against severe weather.

While the funding has been approved, city officials have not yet announced a timeline for when construction and cleanup efforts will begin. Residents in affected areas are expected to receive additional updates as project schedules are finalized.
