Escambia County, Fla. (BuzzReport) — A traffic stop conducted Wednesday morning by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies resulted in the arrest of a Pensacola man on drug and firearm charges.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assigned to the C/South patrol unit initiated a traffic stop on a black Honda Accord on Hansen Boulevard. Deputies reported observing the vehicle traveling from the area of the Washburn Center prior to the stop.

Authorities said the driver attempted to evade the traffic stop by pulling into the yard of residents he did not know. Deputies made contact with the driver and conducted an investigation during the stop.

The driver was identified as 28-year-old Vonderrekus Paden. Deputies arrested Paden after allegedly discovering Spice, a synthetic cannabinoid, packaged in a manner consistent with intent to distribute. Deputies also reported locating a stolen firearm inside the vehicle.

Paden was taken into custody and charged with possession of Spice with intent to distribute and possession of a stolen firearm. He was transported to the Escambia County Jail, where he remains pending further legal proceedings.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office commended Deputy Creech and the C/South patrol unit for their work during the incident, noting the arrest as part of ongoing efforts to keep illegal drugs and firearms out of the community.

The case remains under investigation.
