Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Chaos erupted Friday night outside Murphy High School after a fight escalated into gunfire following a varsity boys basketball game, sending one person to the hospital and prompting a police investigation.

According to witnesses, a physical altercation broke out in the Murphy High School parking lot shortly after the game ended. Moments later, more than a dozen gunshots were heard, sending students, parents, and spectators fleeing for safety.

Mobile Police confirmed that one individual was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. The extent of the victim’s injuries has not been released.

“It appears this occurred after a game tonight,” Mobile Police said.

The varsity matchup featured the Murphy Panthers facing off against the Blount Leopards. Authorities have not confirmed whether those involved in the shooting were students, spectators, or others attending the game.

Police quickly responded to the scene, securing the area and launching an investigation. As of Saturday morning, no arrests have been announced, and investigators have not released details regarding a suspect or motive.

The incident remains under active investigation, and officials say additional information will be released as it becomes available.

School and district officials have not yet issued a public statement regarding the shooting or any potential changes to upcoming athletic events or campus security.
