Pascagoula, MS (BuzzReport) — Law enforcement officials confirmed that a suspected carjacking suspect wanted in Mississippi is in custody following a coordinated response Sunday evening. On Sunday, December 28, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers received intelligence indicating that a carjacking suspect from Jackson, Mississippi, was believed to be within the local jurisdiction. The information prompted an immediate response from the department’s Crime Suppression Unit, which began actively searching for the suspect and the associated vehicle. Crime Suppression Unit officers located the suspect at an Exxon gas station on Chicot Street. When officers attempted to make contact, the suspect fled on foot, leading to a brief pursuit. The suspect was ultimately apprehended with the assistance of K9 Thor. The individual was identified as 43-year-old Phares Antonio Pickens. Following his apprehension, Pickens was transported to Singing River Hospital, where he received treatment for injuries sustained during the arrest. After being medically cleared, he was transferred to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center. Pickens was charged locally with Receiving Stolen Property. In addition, authorities confirmed that he is being held on charges stemming from Jackson, Mississippi, including Armed Carjacking and Aggravated Assault through Capitol Police. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the original carjacking.
