Teen Arrested After Threatening Messages Target Grand Bay Middle School

Grand Bay, AL (BuzzReport)- Authorities in Mobile County have arrested a 14-year-old Grand Bay Middle School student after a series of alarming messages surfaced in a group chat, threatening a school shooting. The messages, which circulated among students, included an image of a handgun fitted with an extended magazine, raising immediate concerns for the safety of the school community. 

Investigators from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office moved quickly after being alerted to the threats on Tuesday evening. Initial leads suggested multiple students could have been involved, prompting officers to track down several addresses in the area. As the investigation unfolded, law enforcement determined that the threats originated from a single individual. 

The teenager’s home in Bayou La Batre was searched with the consent of a parent. No firearms were found, and authorities later determined that the image of the gun had been taken from social media rather than from the student’s possession. Despite the absence of an actual weapon, officials emphasized that the nature of the messages constituted a credible threat. The student now faces a criminal charge of making a terrorist threat in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor under Alabama law. 

Law enforcement officials stress that even digital threats carry serious legal consequences, especially in light of recent incidents nationwide involving weapons on school grounds. The sheriff’s office is urging parents to remain engaged with their children’s online activities, noting that proactive monitoring can help prevent dangerous situations before they escalate. 

On Wednesday, law enforcement maintained a presence at Grand Bay Middle School as a precautionary measure. School officials confirmed that classes proceeded on a normal schedule, underscoring their commitment to maintaining a secure learning environment while cooperating fully with the investigation.
