Mobile, AL – BuzzReport – A quiet Sunday morning in Mobile’s historic Midtown neighborhood was shattered by gunfire just after 4 a.m., when a teenage boy was struck while sitting on the front porch of a home in the 1500 block of Dominick Street. The Mobile Police Department has launched an urgent investigation into the shooting, which has left residents rattled and city officials calling for calm and cooperation.

The juvenile victim, whose identity has not been released, was sitting outside when gunfire erupted, striking him in what authorities describe as a targeted but still unexplained attack. Despite the severity of the situation, early assessments indicate the injuries are not life-threatening. Eyewitnesses reported hearing at least four rapid shots before silence returned to the tree-lined street, known more for its historic homes and tight-knit community than violent crime.

Neighbors emerged from their homes in bathrobes and slippers, some still groggy from sleep, to find emergency vehicles absent—prompting confusion and concern. The injured teen was transported to a nearby medical facility in a private vehicle before first responders arrived, delaying the formal start of the police investigation. Officers began canvassing the area within 20 minutes, collecting surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses, while crime scene technicians combed the porch and surrounding sidewalks for shell casings and other evidence.

Streets were cordoned off for several hours as detectives methodically processed the scene. No arrests have been made, and police have not released a suspect description or possible motive. However, sources within the department suggest that digital evidence, including cell phone data and traffic cameras, may play a key role in identifying those responsible.

The incident marks one of several shootings in Mobile over the past week, prompting renewed discussion about gun violence, youth safety, and neighborhood policing. Community leaders gathered near the scene by mid-morning to express solidarity with the victim’s family and urged witnesses to come forward. A makeshift memorial of flowers and candles began to take shape near the porch steps by early afternoon.

City officials emphasized that no area should become accustomed to such violence and pledged additional patrols in the neighborhood while the investigation unfolds. The Mobile Police Department confirmed the case remains active and high priority, with detectives working around the clock to piece together the chain of events leading up to the shooting.
